Mhondoro is set in the heart of the magnificent malaria free Welgevonden Game Reserve. It offers the perfect getaway for the discerning traveller. The luxurious lodge offers five star accommodation coupled with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Only a 2.5 hour drive from Johannesburg and set on a rocky outcrop, Mhondoro boast sweeping views of the unspoilt, pristine African bushveld. With an exclusive waterhole sited in front of the main lodge sundeck, you are assured of intimate sightings of the Welgevonden wildlife as well as awe inspiring sunrises and sunsets. Mhondoro Lodge is also easy accessible by aeroplane. When you board at Lansaria Airport, it will take approximately one hour for you to arrive nearby Mhondoro Lodge.

The Welgevonden Game Reserve is divided by the three main rivers that meander quietly through densely wooded regions on their way to joining the mighty Limpopo river. The Game Reserve is part of the larger United Waterberg Biosphere in the Limpopo province, founded in 1993, and is comprised of mountainous terrain divided by deep valleys and kloofs (ravines).

Accommodation

Our lodge was fully renovated in 2011 and is equipped with state-of-the-art luxuries. You will feel at home the moment you step inside. The lodge is highly exclusive and caters for a maximum of ten guests. For us, our guests come first. Our hosts and hostesses give you the personal care and attention that makes your stay at Mhondoro truly memorable.

Our soothing and stylish lounge is one of high standard, a true villa. We have made every effort to let you feel you’re most welcome. In our opinion in this we succeeded. The Villa exudes the African atmosphere, whether you are with friends at the bar, or enjoying the view from one of our beautifully designed booths.

If during your stay at Mhondoro, you just want to retire quietly to enjoy everything around you, you can do that in our separate TV lounge with its special seating area. In our TV lounge you can retire with a good book from our library, while gazing out at the watering hole. You can watch TV and enjoy zapping through the various South African television stations. At our lounge, children are not forgotten, they will enjoy the special kids corner.

Mhondoro boasts four exclusive villas, three Deluxe villas and one Presidential villa.
Mhondoro is situated in a unique and majestic setting. Our main Villa veranda overlooks a breathtaking valley and water hole where the animals regularly come to drink. It is a great place to chill and in our adjacent TV Lounge you can do some channel-hopping on the TV or read a book from our library. There is also an internet connection where you can keep in touch with the home front.

Our 3 x 5 meter swimming pool is on the main veranda, where you can cool down on a hot summer day. In our therapy room or spa you can indulge in a massage or choose from a whole range of treatments. Fitness enthusiasts will love our wellness and gym area. Other services include; souvenir and novelty shop, laundry, babysitting (per hour) and massages.

the Villas
Our Presidential villa is named Tlou, two beautifully decorated rooms are joined by a spacious communal lounge. Luxury and style are blended together. From the bubbling Jacuzzi on the deck there is always the possibility of catching a glimpse of the sometimes elusive Big 5.

Our Deluxe villa, named Tau, is set furthest from the lodge. The room is beautifully decorated and has a truly African feel. The private deck offers a great view of the lodge watering hole. Being so secluded this is the ideal villa for a honeymoon or romantic getaways.

Deluxe villa Nare is bathed in sunlight during the early mornings. The villa is styled to comfort, convenience and relaxation. The interior welcomes all travellers alike.

Deluxe villa Ingwe is lightly elevated against the side of an age-old rocky outcrop that Mhondoro calls home. Ingwe offers magnificent views of the Waterberg Mountains. A modern interior with a great mix of African atmosphere.

Villa Facilities:
The facilities in all villas comprehend: coffee/tea making facilities, gas fireplace and electric blanket, temperature control, iPod docking, minibar and in- and outdoor shower. In addition the Presidential villa has a Jacuzzi on the deck.

Meals & Dining

The meals at Mhondoro Lodge are a culinary experience and famous throughout the region. We serve a full and delicious breakfast, afternoon teas and three-course dinners true African style. Mhondoro offers a wide choice of wines, some from excellent local vineyards.
