Owl Cottage \ Accommodation in Magoebaskloof

Magoebaskloof is a beautiful area of mountains and streams, indigenous forests and plantations, azaleas and open space.

Owl Cottage is situated on the pass 25 kilometres from Tzaneen to the east and Haenertsburg village 15 kilometres to the west. We are on the Southern edge of the beautiful Woodbush Reserve renowned for its birding. A few kilometers away is the Debengi Falls a natural wonder with great braai and picnic facilities. There are some lovely walks around to go out and enjoy the scenery.

Self Catering Accommodation

Owl cottage offers spacious accommodation for six people. We have three separate bedrooms each with single beds. The beds are made up with pretty duvets and extra blankets are supplied for chilly nights. There are also hot water bottles to snuggle up to. One room has a shower hand basin and loo en-suite and there is a family bathroom with a bath that has a shower above, hand basin and loo. There is a washing machine for cold water washes.

Our kitchen is open plan and offers a table top oven and two gas rings. There is a microwave oven and a large toaster and an electric kettle. There are plenty of plates and bowls, nice big mugs for your tea and coffee and all the cutlery you will need. We have two fridges one of which has a freezer compartment, so there is plenty of room for your food and your cold drinks. There are saucepans and serving dishes.

Our sitting room is comfortable with a three piece suite and a nice padded bench seat. The dining table has six directors chairs around it to make for comfortable dining. We offer you tea, coffee, sugar and milk, some rusks and a bottle of red wine to get you started. Owl Cottage is self catering.

Facilities

Outside we offer you seating for six on our covered stoep and a choice of two braais. There is a dart board there for a few fun games while you cook supper. The stoep looks over the herb bed to the sparkling swimming pool. Please feel free to wander around our garden. On the east facing lawn is a table and chairs where you might like to enjoy your sundowners and look at the spectacular view down the mountain towards Tzaneen, there are two swings here for the children to enjoy.

We have a number of water features for that magic running water sound. We are birder friendly hosts, our garden is visited by many sunbirds and White Eyes, we often see Crowned and Long Crested Eagle soaring overhead. The Cape Parrots visit us to eat our Pecan nuts but have strong competition from the Samango monkeys that sit in the trees munching our loquats and nuts and watch us closely!

Activities and Attractions

The village of Haenertsburg has some interesting shops and a good pub. Children and dogs have right of way here, so drive slowly down the pretty main street and enjoy the tranquility of a country village.

We are only an hour and a half from Phalaborwa, so it is easy to go into the Kruger Park and enjoy Limpopo’s famous wildlife. We invite you to come and stay in paradise.
